"Hey!"
Martha turned back without stopping her steps. You know what will happen when you move forward, but keep looking behind? You won't be able to see whatever's coming your way. And so she did.
"Where am I?"
"Bonjour. Square one. Heh."
"What happened?"
"I believe he could give you the complete story. Don't forget to thank him, or, well, slap him. Heh."
Well thanks aplenty, Vince.
"So, you?" Martha asked.
"I'm Ben."
"Okay, Ben. I'm..."
"I know. Martha, no?"
"I guess my reputation preceded me. Do you mind sharing the story?"
"Not at all. You thumped this big guy, Ted, on the pavement outside. You were looking back while walking quickly forward because I yelled at you, so.. I'm kind of guilty here. All apologies."
"And why were you yelling at me back then?"
God, this girl is good.
"Well, I..."
"Was looking for a perfect time to get to know me, and finally the time came, but you hesitate and have to catch me in front of the store?" She smiled.
"I didn't hesitate. You just walked out too fast." I'm weirdly relieved.
She chuckled.
"Well then, Ben. I guess you're also the one who brought me back here, yes?"
"Of course not. It was Ted. And it's not because you're heavy or anything, it's just..."
"Thank you, Ben. I owe you one."
Thursday, I owe you one.
"So. If I ever feel better, remind me to spend some good time with you."
"You can give me your number. When it's all over I'll let you know."
"Phoenix." She grinned.
"The greatest band on earth." I went to heaven.
Thursday, I owe you one hundred.
P.S. There was no such thing like Ted. But I guess you already know that, no? :)
